BlogJam 2008
StoryCorps at Beet StreetStoryCorps’ mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. On April 23 and 24, StoryCorps will visit Fort Collins. Twelve pairs of people from Northern Colorado, one to interview and the other to be interviewed, will be selected to participate in the acclaimed oral history project catalogued in the Library of Congress and aired weekly over most National Public Radio stations. While not strictly “social media,” these oral histories of everyday Americans will be available by podcast on the Beet Street website and may be considered for national broadcast as well. As Beet Street reflects on the new ways that people tell their stories via blogs, it also recognizes the value of generational storytelling that StoryCorps embodies. StoryCorps has facilitated over 15,000 interviews since 2003. StoryCorps is one of the largest oral history projects of its kind. Each 40-minute conversation is recorded on a free CD to share, and is preserved at the Library of Congress. Everybody’s story matters. Every life counts. Help us reach out to record our history, hopes, and common humanity—and illuminate the true character of this nation. To learn more about StoryCorps visit http://www.storycorps.net. To submit your story idea for consideration for the StoryCorps project:
All entries must be received by midnight, Sunday April 20, 2008 for consideration. LISTEN TO SOME SPECIAL STORIES: Shasti O’Leary-Soudant, who survived Hodgkin’s disease, talks with her husband, Jethro, about her illness. Blanca Alvarez tells her daughter, Connie, about illegally crossing the border from Mexico to the United States. Bob Chew speaks to his wife, Jo Ann, about her Alzheimers. |
