Science Café Fort Collins — March 12, 2008
Listen to Dr. David Alciatore (Dr. Dave) Check out Dr. Dave’s website to watch the High-speed Videos he talks about. www.engr.colostate.edu/~dga/
A Fort Collins favorite, Dr. Dave uses a special high-speed camera to film all sorts of things in super slow motion. The video footage and motion analysis demonstrate the physics and engineering of high-speed machinery, sports equipment, and tools. The camera is also fun for viewing stupid human and animal tricks and experiments with toys and food products. Dr. Dave will show and discuss a wide range of video examples for your viewing pleasure. As time permits, he will also show us some of his billiards “research.” Meet David Alciatore: He is co-author of the textbook Introduction to Mechatronics and Measurement Systems (2001, 2004, 2007) creator of the commercial software package VP-Sculpt (1999-2004), and author of the book The Illustrated Principles of Pool and Billiards (2004) and the DVD High-speed Video Magic (2007). He is also an instructional columnist for Billiards Digest magazine. Alciatore has a PhD (1990) and an MS (1987) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin, and a BS (1986) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Orleans. He has been an active member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) since 1984 and has served on many ASME committees, boards, and task forces. |
