Jack Vaughn served as the second Director of the Peace Corps from 1966-69, succeeding Sargent Shriver in that post after having served as Peace Corps Regional Director for Latin America, U.S. Ambassador to Panama and Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs.


Following his Peace Corps service, Vaughn accepted another post as U.S. Ambassador to Colombia. He subsequently held senior positions in higher education and founded and/or directed several national nonprofit organizations including the National Urban Coalition, Planned Parenthood, and Conservation International. He also served as director for international programs for Sesame Street, resident VP of Development and Resources Corporation in Iran, assistant administrator for Latin America USAID, president of Pierce Energy Corporation, and later senior regional advisor for Natural Resources in Central America for USAID. He founded Ecotrust in 1992 and continues as its chairman emeritus today.

In his earlier years, Vaughn distinguished himself as the head boxing coach at the University of Michigan and as an officer in the Marine Corps.
